Southern California (Pasadena)

 

Sr Electrical Engineer                         
​​In this role you will be the technical lead for electrical engineering design, prototyping and testing responsible for supporting test and prototyping infrastructure, and electrical circuit and PCB design, including conceptualization, design, component selection, PCB design and fabrication, prototyping, test and measurement, test automation, and transfer to manufacturing.  Experience in design and test of state of the art circuit boards containing high speed analog circuits and high pin count BGA, and hands on experience in PCB design and interfacing with parts suppliers is a must.  A self-managed individual with work ethic and ability to make working demonstrations on schedule and meeting required performance and cost targets, both as individual contributor and team leader, is an asset. The Sr. Electrical Engineer reports to Director of Product Development.

Specific Responsibilities and Requirements:

  • Prototyping and testing lab setup and management
  • PCB design, prototyping, testing and troubleshooting, interfacing with suppliers
  • High speed analog circuit design (~1ns speeds or less) and simulation
  • Experience with large pin count BGA
  • Fiberoptic testing 
  • Leading, directing, and mentoring junior engineers

Qualifications: Graduate Degree (M.S.) in Electrical Engineering or related field with at least 5 years industrial experience or B.S. in Electrical Engineering with at least 8 years industrial experience.

 

Sr Mechanical Engineer
In this role you will be the technical lead for all mechanical engineering design aspects of fiber optisubsystems, including chassis, printed circuit board assemblies, optoelectronic packaging, and fiber pigtail management. The Sr. Mechanical engineer will support prototype assembly, from concept, design, part selection, PCB design and fabrication, prototyping, inspections, qualification, and manufacturing release, as well as design for production and product support. Hands on experience in SolidWorks, build of assembly tooling, and test fixturing is desired. The Sr. Mechanical Engineer is a strong self-managed individual able to deliver on schedule meeting required performance and cost targets, both as individual contributor and team leader.  The Sr. Mechanical Engineer reports to Director of Product Development.

Specific Responsibilities and Requirements:

  • Hands on experience in PCB design, prototyping, subsystems assembly and prototyping and thermal management
  • Experience with fiber optic component packaging
  • Experience with stress simulations and thermal simulations
  • Advanced knowledge of SolidWorks
  • Leading, directing, and mentoring junior engineers
  • Experience with silicon photonics is a plus

Qualifications:  Graduate Degree (M.S.) in Mechanical Engineering or related field with at least 5 years industrial experience.

 

Sr. Semiconductor Laser Engineer
In this role you will lead the development of Rockley Photonics’ III/V semiconductor and silicon photonics laser technology for our exciting high-speed data center network photonics product development.

Responsibilities and Requirements:

 

  •       Excellent opportunity for multi-faceted role with mix of characterization, design, and vendor sourcing of novel semiconductor laser technologies for new high-speed applications
  •  Extensive experience testing lasers in high-speed data communications systems required
  •  Experience with design of hybrid III/V Silicon-photonic lasers is a plus
  •  Experience with project management taking integrated optoelectronic designs to a successful product is a plus



High-Speed Semiconductor Optoelectronic Device Engineer
In this role you will help the engineering team with design, verification, and test of Rockley Photonics’ Silicon photonics high-speed optoelectronic technology.

Responsibilities and Requirements      

  •       Test and verification of high-speed optoelectronic and photonics devices such as high-speed optical modulators and photo-detectors, etc.
  •       Design and modelling of high-speed integrated Silicon-photonic optoelectronic components.
  •       Document, analysis and report test data timely to provide feedback to the engineering team for device design and process improvements.
  •       25% travel may be required
  •             Experience in optical alignment, fiber-waveguide coupling, high-speed optical modulator and photo-detector testing required
  •             Experience with RF testing of optoelectronic components at of 25 Gb/s is required.
  •       Minimum M.Sc. in Engineering or Physics with background in photonics devices.

 

Fiber-Optic System Engineer
In this role you will lead the design and characterization of Rockley Photonics’ innovative high-speed fiber-optic network system products. You will be responsible for working with optical component designers, digital designers, and product architects to design optical links for novel data center applications. You will perform extensive system characterization and testing, and link simulations, and will be responsible for leading successful system demonstrations for customers.

Responsibilities and Requirements

  •  Test and characterization of 25 Gb/s optical systems
  •  Modelling and design of optical links for novel high speed network applications
  •  Experience with optical system test equipment such as BER testers, pattern generators, and high speed sampling scopes
  •  Experience with data center optical networks and architectures is a plus
  •   Minimum Ph.D. with 2 years optical communication systems work experience, or M.Sc. with 5+ years of related experience. 

 

Lead Chip Designer
You will be responsible for leading the specification, design, verification, and tape out of an ASIC for an advanced data center networking application, basically from concept to production.  You will work with other stakeholders in the organization and the ASIC engineering team to ensure that system-level requirements are met and that the ASIC is delivered on schedule.  You will define the test and verification strategy of the ASIC at multiple stages of development and production qualification.  

Qualifications:

  • PhD
  • 5+ years of work experience
  • Strong background in both mixed signal and digital design
  • Experience in optical communications
  • Experience in IC test and verification
  • Familiar with CMOS design and manufacturing
  • Knowledge of SiGe and BiCOMS is a plus
  • Knowledge of computer networking protocols such as Ethernet and TCP/IP is a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

 

ASIC Verification Engineer
In this role you will be responsible for the verification of an ASIC for an exciting advanced data center networking application.  You will define the verification scope, contribute to the design and implementation of the verification test benches, and perform functional, post-synthesis, and pst-layout verificaitons.  

Qualifications:

  • MS in related field and 2+ years of work experience, or
  • BS in a related field and 5+ years of related work experience
  • Strong Verilog and Python skills
  • Experience with EDA verification tools
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of data center networking protocols such as Ethernet and TCP/IP is a plus

 

ASIC Digital Design Engineer
In this role you will lead the digital design of an ASIC for an exciting advanced data center networking application.  You will design the micro architecture of the data pipeline and control portions of the ASIC, breaking down the design into separate blocks, and specifying the requirements.  You will implement some of the design using a PDK standard cell library, and interface with and manage the relationship with a partner company to implement the remainder of the digital design.  

Qualifications:

  • MS in a related field and 2+ years of related work experience, or
  • BS in a related field and 5+ years of related work experience
  • Strong Verilog and Python skills
  • Experience managing a digital design project from concept to tape out
  • Experience with eDA tools, e.g. simulation, synthesis, PAR, timing analysis
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of data center networking protocols such as Ethernet and TCP/IP a plus

 

Senior Embedded Linux Software Engineer
As a senior embedded Linux software engineer at Rockley Photonics, you will be responsible for designing and implementing software for an advanced data center networking application.  You will design and implement a custom embedded Linux distribution with a custom Linux kernel, a kernel module for interfacing to a networking ASIC over PCI Express, a C library containing additional functionality, and a command-line interface (CLI) layered on top of the C library.  

Qualifications:

  • MS in computer science and 5+ years of related work experience, or
  • BS in computer science and 10+ years of work experience
  • Linux distro development experience with the Yocto Project
  • Linux kernel module development experience
  • Expert knowledge of C and Python programming 
  • Expert knowledge of configuration management tools such as Git or Mercurial
  • Experience setting up unit testing frameworks and continuous integration servers
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of data center networking protocols such as Ethernet and TCP/IP a plus
